Our Trakehners and Sports Performance

You don't breed horses for ist own sake – they usually have to prove as riding horses.  This, however, requires not only the use of stallions with proven performance record.  The broodmares should also prove under saddle that they can perform what they are intended to pass on to their foals.

Suitability for riding and a good basic schooling in addition are important factors in marketing horses.  Unridden young horses are nearly unsaleable in the present market situation – at least not for cost-covering prices.

We are lucky enough to be able to school our self-bred horses on our own.  Our schooling methods are based on the principles of classical riding.  Thorough education and training helped Nicole Raili to successfully enter the advanced level competitions in horse shows.  She is a long-term student of Irish Olympic dressage rider Anna Merveldt.  Since "Peetzy" has moved to Italy Nicki continues training with Anne Merveldt's student Dagmar Kirch.

In spite of all her ambitions for advanced-level dressage sports Nicki always kept her sense for schooling young horses, especially those stamped by TB influence.  As you see, a young Zellsee Trakehner has not only been bred for riding suitability and brought up under expert surveillance, but also experienced carful basic schooling ...
